Exploring the wonder of you

Genes are Us is a genetics education website developed by Jeans for Genes. It provides schools with a host of free resources for increasing awareness and understanding of genetic disorders and how differences in our genes help to make everyone unique.

Curriculum targeted

Targeting key areas of the national curriculum, the films and resources we provide are designed to encourage acceptance and tolerance of difference and help children understand the profound implications that breakthroughs in genetics could have for children and families affected by genetic disorders.

With genetic breakthroughs occurring all the time, there are lots of reasons to be hopeful that that revolutionary new treatments, and perhaps even cures for genetic disorders will become available in the near future.

Expert advice

Our educational resources have been developed in consultation with Nowgen (A Centre for Genetics in Healthcare) based in Manchester.  They have been reviewed by our teacher advisory board and piloted with schools.

The Progress Educational Trust, a public engagement charity specialised in generating debate about issues surrounding genetics have provided advice and feedback on the development of these resources.

Many thank yous

Jeans for Genes would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the children and families who shared their personal stories to help create these resources.

I just wanted to say how wonderful your school resources are. I used them when teaching about inheritance at KS4 and they worked wonders."
